High blood glucose leads to diabetes and dementia, but does it affect brain function in people without diabetes and dementia?

This study looks at people with high hemoglobin A1C levels and how their memory skills and recall skills function.

What they found was that even in the absence of diabetes or poor glucose tolerance, chronically high blood glucose levels affect cognition. Lower blood glucose scores had higher scores in delayed recall, learning ability and memory consolidation.

In these people they found their hippocampus had shrunk. The hippocampus is an important part of your brain responsible for memory, learning and emotion.
