Walking: The First Step to Fighting Obesity

Walking isn’t really a great form of exercise. You should be doing a lot more than just walking if you want to be healthy. However, walking does have some phenomenal benefits, and everybody should be doing it.

Additionally, walking has some incredible effects on obese people or those with metabolic syndrome, and it’s a GREAT place to start if you’re out of shape.

In this video I talk about a study which finds walking has some incredible effects on obese women.

The study has obese women walk for 50-70 minutes every other day for 12 weeks. This is approximately 5000 – 7000 steps, which isn’t very far. In fact, it’s just over the level of being considered “sedentary.”

However, despite this meager amount of walking and exercise, it had some profound effects.

The women who walked all experienced lower levels of inflammatory adipokines, better insulin resistance, lower glucose level, and also experienced a reduction in visceral and subcutaneous adipose.

The control experienced none of the benefits.

If you have obese patients or are obese yourself, walking for an hour every other day is a great way to start getting in shape. You’ll also be combating metabolic syndrome which is a terrible disease.
